Interesting facts-Ghost town in Pennsylvania-Centralia
In the 60s this was a small but thriving mining town. Then someone decided to burn rubbish in one of its abandoned mines. The flames hit an exposed vein of highly flammable anthracite coal and soon much of the fuel under the town was on fire. Over the next two decades many unsuccessful attempts were made to extinguish the flames, but eventually the exhausted authorities just moved out most of the residents.
The fires still burning to this day.
